1978 | The Reverend Gordon Swan, members of the First Baptist Church of Southington, as well as members of American Baptist Churches of Connecticut (ABCCONN), set out to “establish a facility for housing and care of our dear older friends.” They soon discover this endeavor is beyond the capabilities of a single Southington church, and appeal to 23 American Baptist Churches in the central Connecticut area to join them. |
1980 | The not-for-profit Connecticut Baptist Homes is incorporated. The committee meets Mrs. Beulah Mills, owner of the Mills Manor Convalescent Home in Meriden. Ready to retire, she is seeking new owners who will preserve and build upon the fine reputation she has established. |
1983 | A loan from the American Baptist Churches of Connecticut finances the purchase of the 12-acre Mills Manor property. |
1993 | Connecticut Baptist Homes, Inc., opens to residents. By year’s end, a new building is completed, and 30 Mills Manor residents take occupancy. |
1994 | The original building is renovated to accommodate 20 new residential living apartments. |
1999 | Connecticut Baptist Homes, Inc., creates a sister corporation—Connecticut Baptist Housing, Inc., which builds Cedar Ridge on campus: 10 buildings comprising 38 Independent Living apartments. |
2021 | Connecticut Baptist Homes, Inc., merges with Pierce Memorial in Brooklyn, CT. |
2023 | Connecticut Baptist Homes, Inc., merges with Connecticut Baptist Housing, Inc. (Cedar Ridge). |
